Seeking to improve sports governance for the sake of fans and the industry's credibility
Sports have great power to inspire people from different cultures and backgrounds – yet like any lucrative industry, they are vulnerable to corruption. Sports governance bodies should hold themselves to the highest ethical standards as an example to fans and others around the world.
Professor Pieth was appointed to chair an Independent Governance Committee overseeing governance reforms of FIFA from 2011–2013. Since this experience, he has become a well-known commentator on sports governance issues.
He is currently a member of the World Athletics Vetting Panel, which decides whether World Athletics Officials are eligible to take office.
